Kasargod, Jun 24: A gang of robbers targetted the house of a woman living alone at her home in Paivalike in the district in the wee hours on Wednesday June 23. After tying up and injuring her, they took away 12 sovereigns of gold from her possession.
The victim has been identified as Bifatima (60), wife of Abdul Khader from Kokechal Kayyar in Paivalike. Reportedly, the gang forced its way into her house by breaking open the kitchen door with an axe, bound her to a table with the help of ropes, and pierced her hands with knife when she tried to raise an alarm. They also hit her legs and hands. The robbers snatched away gold chains and ear rings from her possession, injuring her ears in the bargain. Bifatima said that the gang then ransacked an almirah and got hold on four golden bangles kept inside.
It took some time before she could recover from the shock after the robbers left, untie herself and inform the neighbourers. The policemen suspect that the gang knew that Bifatima’s daughter, who used to live with her, had gone to her in-laws’ home two weeks ago with her children. Bifatima is recovering in the district cooperative hospital in Kumble.
