Kadaba, Feb 5: The vented dam and minor bridge located at Nekkilady in Alankaru village had crashed during the monsoon season two years back. So far, it has not been repaired, making lives miserable for the locals. People in the area say that the officials, who were approached with a request to either repair the old bridge or provide a new bridge by the side of the broken one, have not heeded to their pleas.
The water which got accumulated in the vented dam was used by farmers for farming activities during summer. As the dam has crashed, for the last two years, the freshwater flowing in during the summer is going waste. People of Gananti, Nadmeeru, Kanipura, Pajjapu, Sharavoor etc used this bridge to go to Alankaru downtown and to Kundaje school. Now they have to take a detour during the rainy season by covering five kilometres via Kinnigoli, Alankaru.
The problem is particularly severe for the children attending Kundaje government higher primary school and Anganwadi centre. The local administration officials and officials of the irrigation department had visited the spot and promised action, but nothing has been done, the people say.
