Look of Mangaluru city marred by unusable vehicles kept haphazardly

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Feb 4: Hundreds of vehicles, which seem destined to be sold as scrap, are rotting by the roadsides near the government offices, police stations and other roads. In addition to eating away precious space, these vehicles can cause accidents and remain as a blot on the appearance of the city.

Several jeeps, tippers, cars, motorbikes etc can be seen parked near Urwa police station. Vegetation has grown around many of these vehicles, and it looks like a forest standing near Kavoor police station by the side of the road. There are vehicles also near Kadri station, but several of them have been cleared during the road development work. Vehicles belonging to police department are rusting inside the office premises of Mangalore Urban Development Authority. Lorry and tanker kept by the roadside near bank station also are gathering rust. Lorry, bus and other vehicles are also parked near Kavoor police station.

When the government vehicles become obsolete, they have to be disposed of, but in most cases, they gather rust. It may be recalled that a fish merchant had died after an auto rickshaw hit an unusable tipper parked at Maroli. A number of vehicles may be seen eroding near the garages i n the city where public places are used for the purposes. Cleanliness is neglected, and during monsoon months, these vehicles turn into mosquito breeding centres, the people point out.

Vehicles are also parked by the side of national highway near Kankanady Garodi where city south traffic police station and Kankanady town police stations are located. When tipper and such other vehicles are parking, availability of the road diminishes, and chances of accidents are high. Therefore, social activist G K Bhat has requested the deputy commissioner, transport and senior officials of the city corporation to create separate area for keeping unused or impounded vehicles.

MLA Vedavyasa Kamath said he will make efforts to discuss the issue with police and other departments and to solve the problem.

Govt must look into this problem seriously and effective. When a vehicle which is found unused at the roadside, findout to whom it belongs.and send a notice to him to remove it within a certain period otherwise it will be takenout and he should pay for it with punishment. There are police patrolling and they must control such things too.Never allow such vehicles to there for years.since it is dangerous due to oil ,or benzin leaking to earth .Can burn easily if someone throws cigarette on it.Such vehicles should be disposed far away from city,Garage owners or any scrap dealers can buy it and use as to sell extra parts etc.Dont allow to stay such vehicles more than a week.

And we call it Smart City. Digging of roads and other things is not the criterion. Everything has to be set right bfore we boast that ours is a Smart City. There is a long way to go for it.

Make arrangement for a particular area away from city to dump these vehicles. And every year make a auction ones or twice. So that the scrap traders and garage owner would take this vehicles to required parts or as a scrap. Government could earn little income.
