Bantwal, Feb 3: Earlier on January 26, a case of unnatural death of a woman identified as Benedict Carlo (72) resident of Ammunje village, Bantwal was registered in Bantwal rural police station under UDR serial no. 03/2021.
However, a few days after the incident, the son of the deceased arrived at the police station on February 2 and expressed suspicions over the death of his mother. The police personnel then registered a case under IPC section 302, 392 and 34 and conducted further investigations.
The investigations revealed that a woman named Elma Prashchita Baretto (25) resident of Amtady village who was hired as a caregiver for the deceased hatched a plan with two other men Sathish and Charan, residents of Narikombu village to steal gold from the house. The accused had murdered Benedict by suffocating her with a pillow.
The three suspects have been arrested and produced in the court. Over 98 gms gold that was stolen by them has been recovered.
The case was investigated under the leadership of Bantwal police circle inspector T D Nagaraj by police personnel of Bantwal rural police station SI Prasanna M S, Vittal station PSI Vinod Reddy, HC Girish, Suresh, Janardhan, Pramila, Kiran, constables Nazeer, Puneeth, Manoj and Prasanna in the guidance of DySP Valentine D’Souza.
