Kolar, Feb 2: In an incident reported from Masti village in Malur taluk, Kolar district, a Muslim family belonging to a gram panchayat member has been boycotted from entering the mosque. Amir Jan, father of Fayaz, who has been elected as gram panchayat (GP) member, has complained to deputy commissioner, Satyabhama, that his family has been barred from entering the mosque.
Amir said that angered by the fact that Fayaz had won the GP election, his family has been barred from coming to the mosque. The family of Amir has 50 members, and they have been banned from entering seven mosques in Masti village. This boycott was imposed by Shaukathulla Baig and his children, head of Jamia Masjid, Siraj Baig, and others, Amir said.
He said that after the prayers at the mosque on January 29, they were called to the mosque in the guise of settling a family dispute of Amir with Aijaz Ahmed and Mohsin Taj, where they were abused with filthy words, beaten up, and barred from entering the mosque. The boycott also extended to Islamic graveyards where the bodies cannot be buried. He says that his family members have wilted under the tyranny of some former panchayat members. The boycott was also announced through the mosque loudspeaker. He says that he and his family members are wilting under the acts of some former panchayat members and influential leaders. Amir also filed a police complaint and said that because his son won the panchayat election, the defeated candidates have plotted against him.
Deputy commissioner, Satyabhama, handed over the complaint to the police and promised legal action.
