Udupi, Feb 2: Canara Bank has deducted a total of Rs 378, Rs 142 at first and Rs 236 the second time towards service charges from the bank accounts of those who have accounts in Syndicate bank.
The union government had merged Syndicate bank with Canara bank a few months ago. The transfers of bank accounts from Syndicate bank to Canara bank were completed recently. The customers who had paid for different bank charges to Syndicate Bank by way of SMS charges, cheque book charges, debit card charges and were shocked to discover that further amount was deducted as service charge by Canara Bank.
In recent times, the price of pulses, electricity and fuel has skyrocketed. Now, the additional charges levied by banks on the accounts following the merger has caused quite a stir among the account holders.
Meanwhile, the customers have urged the bank officials to refund the charges unfairly deducted by the bank.
Speaking to Daijiworld, a higher official of Canara Bank, Manipal said that customers across the country had amount deducted from their accounts as service charge. The official maintained that this was caused due to the technical issue faced in the migration process. The official also told Daijiworld that the customers who had excess amount deducted as service charge will have the amount credited back into their account within a couple of days.
At the same time, the officials assured that all safety measures were being taken in the interest of the customers.
