Kasargod, Feb 2: Police personnel under the leadership of DySP Balakrishnan Nayar arrested two people of a gang accused of kidnapping and robbing Rs 14 lac from a jewellery agent. Seven others who are accused of their involvement in the robbery are absconding.
The arrested are identified as Abdul Nasser (27), resident of Montugoli, Bantwal, and Abdul Rehman (45), from Hidayatnagar, Kotekar, Talapady. Police personnel are on the lookout for the remaining accused.
The incident took place early in the morning on December 10, 2020. The gang of nine men had waylaid the car of the victims near Manjeshwar. The car was on its way from Mangaluru to Kannur. The gang forced Mahesh Patil and Avinash into their car and took them to a secluded place at Karudapadav. The gang robbed cash from the duo and fled from there leaving the victims at the spot.
Mahesh Patil and Avinash later filed a complaint at Manjeshwar station police. The police who investigated the incident found the car of the robbers near Manjeshwar petrol bunk. Further investigation based on the car revealed that the vehicle was taken on hire from a resident of Kasargod Chowki vicinity. The police who got clues of the accused succeeded in arresting two of them.
The investigating team led by The DySP consisted of Manjeshwar police inspector Shine K P, sub-inspector Narayanan Nayar, Rajesh, Shivakumar, Austin Tambi, Shajith, Pravin and others.
