Udupi, Feb 2: Deputy commissioner of the district, G Jagadeesha, stated that army recruitment rally will be held from March 17 onward at Mahatma Gandhi district stadium here for the candidates from Bagalkot, Vijayapura, Dharwad, Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Davanagere, Gadag, Haveri, Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga districts who have filed online applications to join the Indian Army.
He was speaking at the preliminary meeting of the army recruitment rally on Monday, February 1 at the office of the deputy commissioner here. "About 38,500 candidates are expected to participate in the rally. They need to be provided with drinking water and toilet facilities. We have to lay stress on hygiene and cleanliness. Arrangements like erection of shamiyanas, barricades, light, medical and fire service facilities have to be provided. In the interests of security, police personnel have to be deployed," he instructed the officials.
The deputy commissioner asked deputy director of public instruction, N H Nagur, to depute suitable staff to check educational qualification certificates of the candidates. He asked the health department officials to see that ambulance and medical personnel are available at the venue. He also directed to arrange for stay and vehicles for the army officers.
Additional deputy commissioner, Sadashiva Prabhu, assistant director in the department of youth empowerment and sports, Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty, municipal commissioner, Uday Kumar Shetty, district surgeon, Dr Madhusudan Nayak, deputy director of public instruction, N H Nagur and director of the army recruitment at Mangaluru, Col Dubash, were present.
