Chikkamagaluru, Feb 1: The district child welfare committee has filed a complaint at Sringeri police station, claiming that 17 persons had raped a minor girl.
The committee has claimed that the victim is a 15-year-old girl from Gochanahalli village in Sringeri taluk. Seventeen men had committed sexual atrocities on her besides raping her, the committee has said. The stepmother of the girl has been accused of facilitating the rapists.

Out of the 17 named in the complaint, seven have been arrested. The police are searching for the remaining accused.
The girl is a native of Shiggaon in Haveri district. Her mother is no more and her father has married a second time. The girl was staying in the house of her maternal uncle and studied there. During the corona lockdown period, she had come to Sringeri and visited her stepmother when she became victim of rape, said president of the child welfare committee, Subrahmanya.
