Mangaluru, Jan 30: During the last four months since the complaint boxes were installed at the central office of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) at Lalbagh and the Surathkal office, the people have dropped over 300 complaints into them, and most are against the officers and other staff.
The complaints received are about non-response by officers when the problems are explained, staff at the birth and death registration counter speaking harshly, street lights in inner roads not functional, underground drainage blocks and effluent flowing on the road, rotten roads, water not supplied, officials absent from seats during office hours, etc.
The boxes have been installed to enable the people who cannot directly meet the mayor or commissioner to explain their problems. The corporation administration wants to care for even the last person of the city. People who do not get relief even after informing the officers or local corporators about their problems, can write their problems briefly with addresses and mobile numbers, which are read personally by the mayor or the commissioner. The names of the complaints are kept a secret. They contact the department and get the issues addressed. In case of dereliction of duty, the concerned will be instructed to attend to work and if he fails, disciplinary action would be initiated.
