Mangaluru, Jan 28: In another incident of social media fraud, a person from the city was enticed with a gift of gold and diamond ornaments worth Rs 35 lac. The man was made to transfer funds of Rs 1.35 lac to the fraudster's account.
A person claiming to be Reynold Christopher, who had got introduced on Facebook on which the two spoke and chatted, made the other person believe that he would be sending gift worth Rs 35 lac by way of gold and diamond ornaments. On January 18, a lady who introduced herself as a customs officer from Delhi, said that a parcel had been received at the airport and informed that delivery charge of Rs 30,000 would have to be paid.
On January 20, another call came from the same lady. She gave various reasons and asked for money of Rs 1.05 lac to be transferred to different banks. The complainant said that he was cheated after making the fraudsters made him shell out Rs 1.35 lac through transfer to different accounts.
