Mangaluru/Udupi, Jan 24: Dakshina Kannada on Sunday January 24 recorded 42 new cases of novel coronavirus and one death, while Udupi reported 17 fresh cases.
As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 5,12,574 samples have been tested so far, out of which 4,78,971 have turned out to be negative.
The total number of positive cases in the district stands at 33,603, out of which only 280 are currently active.
As many as 26 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 32,584.
One death due to coronavirus was reported on Sunday. The total number of deaths so far is 739.
Though the cases are on a decline, the district administration has urged people to continue maintaining social distance in public places and wear masks when stepping out of the house. Anyone not wearing a mask would be fined by the authority.
So far, the district administration has collected a whopping Rs 28,33,635 as fine in 27,047 incidents of mask violation.
Udupi
As per the district health bulletin, as many as 3,28,960 samples have been tested so far, out of which 3,05,689 have turned out to be negative.
As many as 17 new cases were reported on Sunday, taking the total number of cases to 23,271, out of which only 43 are currently active.
Four patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 23,039.
Out of 17 new patients, 12 are in home isolation while five others are in COVID hospitals or care centres.
Among the 17, 13 are asymptomatic.
While Udupi reported eight of the 17 cases, Kundapur recorded seven and Karkala two.
The district has reported 189 deaths due to coronavirus so far.
