Udupi, Jan 23: People of the district are curious to know if the newly inducted cabinet minister and Sullia MLA S Angara be appointed as the district in-charge of Udupi. The schedule for flag hoisting on Republic Day is already out. Accordingly, Angara is going to hoist the flag in Udupi.
Basavaraj Bommai, who is currently the in-charge of Udupi district, has two more districts to look after. Moreover, now he has to function as the minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs also.
S Angara, Kota Srinivas Poojary and Basavaraj Bommai
Given the present scenario, the people of Udupi are curious to know whether Angara will be made the district in-charge. People of the district wanted a minister of the district itself to be the in-charge. However, due to internal politics of BJP, minister Kota Srinivas Poojary was made the in-charge of Dakshina Kannada district. Later in 2019, Basavaraj Bommai was made the in-charge of Udupi district. The question that arose at that time was are there no eligible MLAs in the district, who can take the responsibility of district in-charge?
Home minister Basavaraj Bommai, who is the current in-charge of the district, hardly visits the district. Even during the Covid lockdown time, deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha took all the responsibilities. Only during the natural calamity that occurred during monsoon, Bommai was seen making one or two rounds of the district. Otherwise, he was mostly stationed in Bengaluru and looking after the affairs of home ministry. So most of the people of the district complain that he is not available to address their grievances.
After taking the oath of the newly inducted ministers, Republic Day will be the first official programme that is going to be held throughout the state. Now all eyes are on Angara, the Fisheries minister, who hails from Sullia in the district of Dakshina Kannada. He is known for his pro-people administration and simplicity. Though he is in politics for the past 32 years, he never asked for ministership and was serving the public. After becoming minister for Fisheries, Interior and Ports, Angara will be visiting Udupi for the first time on January 26. Along with his visit, all are expecting him to be the next in-charge of the district.
