Panaji, Jun 16: The number of government employees who would be retiring during the next two years stands at around 5,000, which indicates those much vacancies waiting to be created in the state government service.
Presently, there are over 50,000 employees in the service of the state government.
As per the information available with the Department of Planning, Statistics and Evaluation regarding employees in the government departments, semi-government bodies and government aided establishments, a total of 3,722 employees will retire from government departments by 2012.
Similarly, 1,258 employees will be retiring from the government aided establishments while in all 140 employees will be retiring from the public sector undertakings, during next two years.
The maximum number of employees – around 700 – who will be retiring in the next two years from the government service, belongs to the Department of Education.
The others are 441 in the Public Works Department, 255 in the Police Department, 400 in the Health Department, 130 in the Agriculture Department, 190 in the Water Resources Department, 450 in the Electricity Department, and 40 in the Tillari Development Corporation. They also include 90 employees in the Directorate of Higher Education, 110 in the municipal bodies, 50 in the Kadamba Transport Corporation, 170 in the Goa Medical College, 50 in the Handicrafts Corporation, 90 in the Animal Husbandry, 100 in the Forest Department, 20 in the Tourism Department and 25 in the Fisheries Department, among others.
The DoPSE has noted that all these 5,120 employees have already completed 55 years of their age in the year 2007; few of whom have already retired voluntarily.
In addition, at this point of time, altogether 6,207 employees in the age group 50-55 are working in the different government departments. Furthermore, the number of government employees below the age of 50 stands at 25,127.
The statistics informs that the percentage of government employees above 50 years of age is 28.32 per cent. In the public sector undertakings, the number of employees in the age group 50-55 is 480, while that of employees below 50 years of age is 2,213. In the government aided establishments, there are 1,454 employees in the age group 50-55 while below 50-years employees in these establishments are 7,117. The percentage of above 50-years employees in the government aided establishments is 27.59 per cent.
