Dubai, Jan 17: Thumbay Moideen, founder president of the UAE-based Thumbay Group, is among top 30 Indian business leaders in the Arab world featured in the Forbes Middle East list announced on Sunday January 17.
Yusuffali M A, chairman of Lulu Group tops the list, followed by Renuka Jagtiani of the Landmark Group, Sunny Varkey of GEMS Education, Sunil Vaswani, Ravi Pillai of RP Group, P N C Menon and Dr Shamsheer Vayalil, among others.
Among the 30-member list, Thumbay Moideen is ranked 11. The list includes business leaders from various sectors such as retail, industrials, healthcare, banking and finance.
"Since founding the Thumbay Group in 1998, Moideen has ventured into multiple areas of the healthcare sector, including health education and medical research. The Thumbay University Hospital in Ajman, which was built at a cost of over $272 million, can treat more than 20,000 patients daily. The group plans to increase its hospital network to 15 by 2022 with around 1,000 beds in the UAE, 1,500 in India, and 1,000 across other parts of the GCC and Africa. The group also has interests in diagnostics, pharmacies, communications, real estate, publishing, technology, medical tourism, and trading," Forbes stated in its description of Moideen and Thumbay Group.
The 30-member list is dominated by business leaders based in the UAE. Nearly half of them hail from Kerala. The list includes several veteran business personalities, and also new generation business leaders like Adeeb Ahamed of Lulu Financial Holdings.
In 2016, Thumbay Moideen had been featured on the cover of Forbes Middle East magazine. The cover story, titled 'Healthy Choice' traced Moideen’s business journey in the UAE starting from setting up of Gulf Medical University (GMU) in Ajman, to emerging as a prominent name in healthcare and medical education by establishing the leading network of academic hospitals in the country and making GMU one of the highest-in-demand private medical universities in the region.
