Margao, Jun 14: In a shocking incident that occurred in Margao on Sunday, June 13, a 25-year-old woman was murdered in broad daylight, just a few metres away from the Margao police headquarters, near the old bus stand in the city.
The Margao police disclosed the woman’s name as Musrubia Sheikh, a resident of Nessai, and said that the murder took place at around 4 p.m.
Cops have arrested a 28-year-old youth, Abhijeet Patil and an offence under Section 302 of IPC has been registered against him. Abhijeet, is a resident of Ravanfond but originally from Kolhapur.
According to information given by police, the deceased was working as a receptionist in a reputed hotel in the city while the alleged accused Abhijeet was her ex-colleague in the hotel. Police said that they had developed friendship while working in the hotel.
Police further said that on Sunday while the woman was waiting at the old bus stand the alleged accused came there and both started talking. After some time there was a heated argument between the two and in a fit of anger Abhijeet removed a knife from his pocket and stabbed the woman repeatedly in the busy area.
She was taken to Hospicio hospital but was declared brought dead.
Police said that people who had gathered at the place alerted them and also tried to nab Abhijeet who started running towards the road where the Margao police station is located. He was later caught by the police and taken to the police station. The knife used to commit the murder has been recovered and Abhijeet’s statement will be recorded, said police. It is learnt that there was some tension between the deceased and the alleged accused, however, police said that the exact cause of murder is not known as yet and investigation is in progress.
