Mangaluru/Udupi, Jan 14: The much-awaited Covid-19 vaccine reached Mangaluru on Thursday January 14.
Covishield vaccine, which arrived to the district of Dakshina Kannada on Thursday, January 14 was received by the officials and personnel of health department in the campus of Wenlock hospital in the city.
The Covid-19 vaccine, Covishield, is kept in cold storage of ILR vaccine storage unit given new by the state government. The district received 24,500 doses in the first phase.

The center in Mangaluru will stock the vaccine that will be distributed in the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Chikkamagaluru districts. Respective deputy commissioners will collect the same from the center.
Covishield vaccine against coronavirus arrived in Udupi later. The vehicle carrying the vaccine was welcomed by beating Jagate by Subramanya Sherigar.
The vaccine reached the office of district health officer at 11.50 am. It was kept in the drug warehouse safely.
In the first phase 12,000 doses of vaccines are given. These were brought under police escort from the government drug stocking centre in Mangaluru.
Deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha speaking to media said that, “As proposed by the central and state government, we will get vaccines phase by phase. We have received 12,000 vaccines in the first phase. On the first day of vaccination on January 16, the vaccination programme will be conducted at six vaccination centres including government hospital Ajjarkad, GHC Karkala, and others for 600 beneficiaries which include doctors to group D cadre. There are 105 government and 797 private health centres in Udupi. There are a total 22,230 beneficiaries who have registered their names on the health department portal. There are 94 vaccine centres, 240 vaccine camps (sessions) and 132 vaccinators in the unit. Second list of beneficiaries is being processed. We have done all the necessary preparations in the health department. All beneficiaries are excited to receive the vaccine.”
CEO of ZP Dr Naveen Bhat, DMO Dr Sudhir Chandra Sooda, Covid Nodal officer Dr Prashanth and Dr Premanand were present.
The first phase of coronavirus vaccination will take place on January 16. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the vaccination programme virtually throughout the country on January 16. This will be distributed to all the registered health personnel of government hospitals. In coming days, the vaccination will be given to rest of the health care professionals and corona warriors.
