Panaji, Jan 12 (IANS): A joint team of Cyber Crime officials from the Goa Police and Delhi Police arrested two Delhi-based Africans, who duped a woman from Goa of Rs 37 lakh by luring her through a matrimonial site.
A statement issued by the Goa Police said that the accused had started engaging with the Goa-based woman by posing as a suitor, who wanted to send gifts to her from abroad, which required payments to customs authorities.
"Complaint was received in Cyber Crime PS by victim, that one person had lured the victim by giving her a matrimonial proposal on a website by creating a fake profile," the statement said.
"Thereafter, the criminal lured her by saying that he is sending her expensive gifts from a foreign country where he works as a doctor. Thereafter, on the pretext of custom clearances for the foreign gifts, the criminals defrauded the victim of Rs 37 lakh," the statement said.
The two accused have been identified as Tsoupa Sebastien from Cameroon and Senehuoun Franck from Ivory Coast, both of whom were residing in Mehrauli area in the national capital. The arrests were carried out by a joint team of Cyber Crime and South Delhi police officials on Tuesday.
"Several mobile phones, SIM cards issued on fake identities have been seized along with database of 650 victims from the two persons. Further investigation is going on," the statement said.
