Bengaluru, Jan 9: The police department has ordered a stop to the practice of stopping the vehicles in the middle of the city roads and levying fines on the spot for traffic violations. It has asked to register only digital cases. This effectively puts an end to the harassment suffered by vehicle riders and drivers in the middle of the road when moving in a hurry.
In many cases, policemen used to wait by the road side or behind the trees, and penalise the vehicles for traffic violations or for old violations pending. The police have temporarily stopped this method as the people have expressed their anger at the earlier practice through social media, harassment to people during the fine, collection of money without receipt etc.

As per the guideline, notices should be sent to the address of vehicle owners wherever pending violations are there. Pending Cases should be disposed of early and to collect fines when the owners come to pay for old violations; In the case of vehicles parked in no parking zones, taking photo or noting down number and registration of cases will continue.
Cases should be registered on the basis of mobile camera video. Police have to verify vehicles coming for pollution check and collect fine for old cases if any. Staff have to register a minimum of 25 cases in the digital machine per day, as per the current orders. The police feel that more reliance on digital records will allow the department to deploy the staff for other work, particularly streamlining of the traffic in strategic areas.
