Kasargod, Jan 6: The condition of two who suffered serious injuries in an accident involving a marriage party at Panathur in Kasargod district continues to be serious. Eleven others who have been admitted into hospitals in the city are recovering.

After the ghastly accident, profound silence had descended on the residence of the bride at Palechchar in Balnadu village in Puttur taluk. The marriage of Aruna, daughter of Koggu Naik from Balnadu had been fixed with Prashanth from Karike on Sunday at the residence of the groom. Relatives and friends from nearby villages were travelling to the marriage in a bus.

Dayanand, who travelled in the ill-fated bus, said that the accident happened just five kilometres ahead of the groom's residence and that the bride's family was waiting for the arrival of the bus. He said that the bus was moving fast. "I was seated in the back. Most of those in the front seats were injured," he explained.

The preliminary report submitted by the collector of Kasargod district to the transport minister has mentioned that recklessness and carelessness on the part of the driver caused the accident at Panathur. Regional transport officer Radhakrishnan, said that there was no problem with the bus engine, nor were there deficiencies with the tyres, and the brakes etc were found to be functioning in the primary inspection. He felt that as there was slope on the road and carelessness or lack of awareness of the road conditions on the part of the driver etc would have caused the accident.

Deputy collector Meghashree and the transport department were asked to investigate the accident. They have sent preliminary reports accordingly.

Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari, Dr D Veerendra Heggade, has condoled the death of the accident victims connected with the above marriage. He wished that those in the hospital will recover soon. He suggested disciplined driving and following road rules strictly like in foreign countries in order to reduce such accidents.
