Mangaluru, Jan 5: Some nursing colleges functioning in the city have been accused of creating hurdles in the efforts being made by several departments to stop the spread of the pandemic. There are allegations that when admitting students from Kerala, these colleges have been overlooking the need to adhere to the standard operating procedure (SOP) protocol.
As many as 78 students of a nursing college had been diagnosed with this infection last week. Now, on Monday January 4, six students of another college have tested positive. Almost all the infected students are from Kerala. As per SOP, students coming into educational institutions in the distinct from other states and districts have to undergo RT-PCR test 72 hours before coming here and produce negative certificates.
After coronavirus infection was detected in a large number of students of a nursing college, the college and surrounding areas were declared as containment zone and 14 days isolation was imposed. Show cause notice had been served to the nursing college. As the reply given by the college was not found to be satisfactory, a containment zone was declared around the college premises. Now, the other nursing college where six were found infected too has been slapped with a notice.
