Mangaluru: UK returnees test negative for coronavirus

Mangaluru, Jan 2: So far, 15 of the test reports conducted on people who had returned from the United Kingdom to Dakshina Kannada district have been received. All of the returnees have tested negative. Two more reports are expected soon.

On account of new coronavirus strain with complicated mutations having been discovered in the United Kingdom, the health department, out of concern about the strain spreading its tentacles here, had contacted those who returned to Dakshina Kannada district from Britain and subjected them to coronavirus tests. In the first phase, 66 were tested and in the second, 25 were subjected to tests. All the 66 in the first batch had tested negative.

The test reports on 25 more who were tested for the presence of the deadly virus were received on Friday. All of them were negative. On Friday, two were tested and their test reports will be received on Saturday.

Bank branch sealed down

As bank manager and staff of Canara Bank's Padubidri branch were infected with coronavirus, the branch was sealed down on December 31. The branch was sanitised on January 1 and the bank was opened for the public on January 1, it is gathered.
