Karnataka logs 877 fresh coronavirus cases; 1,084 recoveries


Bengaluru, Jan 2 (IANS): Karnataka has registered 877 new Covid-19 cases even as 1,084 patients recovered on a single day, said the state health bulletin on Friday.

"Of the 1,15,451 tests conducted on Thursday, 877 were positive, taking the state's Covid tally to 9,20,373, including 11,058 active cases, while 8,97,200 recovered so far, with 1,084 in the last 24 hours," said the bulletin.

With only six succumbing to the infection in the day, the state's death toll rose to 12,096 till date since the pandemic broke on March 8.

Bengaluru reported 464 new cases, taking its tally to 3,88,850, including 7,085 active cases, while recoveries increased to 3,77,443, with 608 patients discharged earlier in the day.

The virus claimed 4 lives in the day, taking the city's death toll to 4,321.

Of the 189 patients in the intensive care units (ICUs) across the state, 82 are in Bengaluru, 13 in Kalaburagi, 11 each in Gadag and Tumakuru and 10 in Hassan district.

Out of 1,17,907 tests conducted on Friday, 8,951 were through rapid-antigen detection and 1,08,956 through RT-PCR method.

"Positivity rate for the day was 0.74 per cent and case fatality rate 0.68 per cent across the southern state," added the bulletin.
