Mangaluru, Dec 29: In a case filed with the cyber police station here by a woman, she said that a person robbed her of Rs 13.35 lac after promising to send a gift on her daughter's birthday.
It is learnt that the lady, received a friend request on her Facebook account from a person who identified himself as Dr Gym Kia. She accepted the request after which the two got to know each other well. This developed into WhatsApp chat. Kia used to send WhatsApp messages to her. In the recent past, Kia told her through a message that he would be sending a gift on the birthday of the lady's daughter.

He later told her that the customs officers would be delivering her a gift but a sum of Rs 13.35 lac has to be paid to them to get the gift released. He claimed that his account had some technical problem and promised to remit money as soon as the problem was addressed. The lady fell to the trap, and got the gift packet by paying Rs 13.35 lac to the fake customs officer.
In course of time, she realized that she had been taken for a ride. Kia had been chatting with her, by making her believe that he was in some foreign country. This case has been added to several similar cases that have happened in the past in the city.
