French Open: Paes on Course for His 12th Grand Slam

Paris, June 4 (IANS): Leander Paes of India and Czech Lukas Dlouhy Thursday remained on course for the second successive French Open doubles title as they entered the final, sweeping aside Austria's Julian Knowle and Israel's Andy Ram, seeded tenth, 6-4, 6-2.

Third seeds Paes and Dlouhy broke Knowle and Ram five times in the 75-minute match.

The Indo-Czech pair now plays second seeds Daniel Nestor of Canada and Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia in the title clash.

Nestor and Zimonjic thrashed last year's finalists Wesley Moodie of South Africa and Belgium's Dick Norman, seeded fourth, 6-0, 6-3.

It will be Paes's 12th Grand Slam title, his fourth in men's doubles here, if he and Dlouhy win the final. The 36-year-old Indian has six men's doubles titles and five mixed doubles titles in a Grand Slam so far.

Paes had won the doubles title here in 1999 and 2001 with ex-partner Mahesh Bhupathi and with Dlouhy last year. Paes and Dlouhy also clinched the US Open title last year.
