Kerala's 21-year-old student set to become country's youngest mayor

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 25 (IANS): The CPI(M) has chosen 21-year-old Arya Rajendran as its Mayor candidate after the party's district committee and state committee sanctioned her candidature. She is a first-time councillor from Mudavanmugal division of Thiruvananthapuram corporation.

Arya Rajendran is a BSc Mathematics student and is the party's Chala area committee member.

She will be the youngest Mayor of the country, and with this the party leadership is expecting to have more educated women into the leadership role.

The party has won 51 seats in the 100-member council in the recently concluded local body elections. The BJP with 35 seats is the main opposition. The Congress-led UDF was relegated to the third place with 10 councillors. There are four independent councillors in the corporation.

The CPi(M) had projected former chairperson of the Health standing Committee Pushpalatha, Teachers union leader A.G. Olena and Jameela Sreedharan as their Mayor candidates. While Pushplatha and Olena lost in the elections, the party preferred 21-year-old Arya Rajendran over Jameela Sreedharan, who is a retired government employee.

The name of 23-year-old first time councillor from Vanchiyoor division, Gayatri Babu had also come up during the discussion, but Arya was given the green signal as she is the state president of the "Balasangam", the party's children's wing and also the CPI(M) area committee member.

Arya Rajendran, while speaking to the media persons, said, "It's the decision of the party and I abide by it. During the elections, people preferred me as I am a student and the public wanted their representative to be well educated. I will continue my education and will discharge my duties as a Mayor."

Nothing strange, as there are young and good looking,

Justin Trudeau of Canada, Emmanuel Macron of France, now soon Kamala Harris in US, AOC for 2024, Jacinda Ardern of New Zealand... Democrat or left leaning leaders but backend ruled by their powerful communist masters. Finally these may be controlled by dictators communist china and socialist russia with some communist western elites.

Dear John, Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder..... Good that you found her beautiful and appreciate your sense of beauty..... But for your kind reading, (if you could understand, all the more better), In Kerala, people vote on political lines and not on beauty or religion or other aspects..... By the way, Kerala is only South Indian state, where people from film fraternity (normally known for their glamour and charisma) could not make it big into politics.....

By the way, What did you mean by stating “Nothing strange, as there are young and good looking”..... It is utterly misogynistic and highly condemnable to state that the candidate won just because she might be good looking female..... But then we always stand for the freedom of expression and do not support "Inquisition"

Achievement of the Left leaning will definitely irritate you because that goes against those who propagate faith business..... BJP, Congress and Centre used the investigating agencies to the core against the Vijayan Government, but people gave a tight slap on the face of (M)urders (O)f (D)emocracy in (I)ndia...... We will vote Left back to power in the coming assembly too..... Your misogynistic comment clearly shows that the achievement of the Left is making you feel jittery

By the way, waiting for the "APPROPRIATE TIME" of the earthquake prophesied by you; which is to happen only in China, Russia and probably Kerala and which will affect only the left leaning :)

Is it not for vote politics? Putting a youth face and trying to fool people that party is pro youth. That to before completing a degree. What about youth completed degree and jobless, those candidates or just graduated ones would have been more reasonable.

Although rule of law permits bit more matured or little experienced is more appropiate for these position. but now a days more of a propaganda than real politics happening around world, backend mostly greed for power and control by world global elitists, some have infilterated in religious high position also. They are also in world politics instead of saving souls thereby making a way for self destruction of religious institutions and vocations and morals will likely gone for the toss soon (with virus reducing elderly, experienced also these vaccine might do the same as they are not tested for long term effects) which leads to confused and chaotic situations and possible dictorship around the world like North Korea, Venezuela, Russia, China and that's why God will intervene soon.

She was never projected as a Mayor candidate.... elected as Mayor only after the elections..... so the question of hoodwinking does not arise....

CPIM has always been encouraging youth faces and it is not trying to fool people and it is not having any dearth of leaders as it is a cadre based party where their journey starts from SFI, DYFI, CITU etc..... and more over you can't even fool people in Kerala because people here does not belong to ilk of foolish electorate to which you belong to who can be easily swayed by the Religion, Money, Beauty, False promises etc.....

Also this exposes your double standards, who have been criticising Congress for not encouraging youth is talking about inexperience of the Mayor candidate. Also eagerly waiting for the so-called God's intervention.... We believe in goodness not God

Elected or made for pro - youth propaganda or for future vote bank politics, why big news in major news channels ?

Goodness comes only from God also God questions knowledge or tests ignorance of humans in Job Ch38 of Bible about His Creation where no scientist, humans or atheists can answer those 40 questions!

Hope to see the same in DK. We in DK is focused too much religion than development. Leaders must focus on economy, job creation, public good.
