Mangaluru, Dec 24: In strange case, a car was towed away by the traffic police while a 7-year-old child was still inside the vehicle. The incident took place in the limits of Mangaluru East police station on Thursday, December 24.

The owners of the vehicle are said to be residents of Mijar, Mangaluru.

It is learnt that Divya had come to Mallikatta in the city in her car along with the driver and two children. Her car was parked by the side of a residential complex there, after which she went to a shop nearby along with one of her sons. The driver and the fourth standard student, Prakhyath, were inside the car. The driver noticed that Divya had left behind her mobile phone inside the car and went to hand it over to her when the police arrived and towed the vehicle away.

The driver and Divya, unaware of the development, started searching for the boy. With the help of locals they checked CCTV camera recording from a spot and found that Kadri police had towed the vehicle away.

The action by the police has come in for widespread criticism. Divya said that the car was not parked in the no parking zone and it was not on the road. She said she is aware of the rules and hence the car had been parked at a spot which was not a no-parking zone.

She said that she had learnt about the abduction of a boy at Ujire and was concerned when her son was not to be seen. She said that her son had been warned not to open the door because of the possibility of the abductors tricking the children. She said she has refused to pay the fine.

Meanwhile, the traffic authorities maintained that given the car had tinted windows, they were unable to detect the presence of any passengers inside the vehicle. They also maintained that the reason for towing the car, a Swift Dzire, was because it was parked on a footpath in front of Girias in Kadri.

Assistant commissioner of police (traffic), A Nataraj, said that the police did not notice the presence of a boy as the windows were tinted. The car was parked on the footpath and no one had come there even after the car was locked and the police waited for 15 minutes, he added.

As per sources, it is reported that the matter has been solved through dialogue between the parties concerned.

Traffic police claim that the car was parked on the footpath.Near Canara club almost every day around 10 vehicles are parking on the footpath no action if complained also. No body can walk on the footpath let them tow all the vehicles if they have courrage. They won't tow these vehicles because they are of influencial persons.

I understand old cars having been tinted is an offence , there new cars which come with the glass itself tinted eg :Nexa vehicles , Ford Figo S , these are not noticed by the RTO and later they are stopped and fined without knowing these things , leaving a child in the car is completely wrong ! If the cops have done any announcements as if it was no parking it would’ve not been their fault , as parking spaces in Mangalore have been cut off because of footpaths which before used to be parking spaces itself .the cops should have been a little more considerate to check ! Might be lesson to learn for the parents and the cops too.

They might have not seen the child. The Mangalore police is very polite and decent when compared to other state police across in the state. They never do that knowingly. First the parents should be punished for such act.

This vehicle towing mafia in Mangalore so harrasement to the bike and car owners in Mangalore. They have to make a announcement and then have to tow. The tow vehicle contains six people on board which itself an offence. ATM for police and the tow vehicle owner. Now a days in the name of road expansion the parking slots are vanishing. Even police and MCC are not acting about this matter.

actually many people leave children or old people/women in the wrongly parked car... so that car is not towed away....

in this case, parents should be criminally booked for offence of not ensuring safety of their kid leaving unattended in the car...

In the first place parents have erred in this case by parking their vehicle on the foot path and keeping their child inside the car with doors closed. As somebody opined above,it is very dangerous and likely to lead the death of child or aged or sick people due to suffocation,if they are left inside the door closed vehicle.
There are many cases in this respect people especially children have died due to suffocation due to vehicle owners negligence.Under the situation, owner of the car should be penalised and not the car tower to be blamed.Besides another fault of the car owner is,its glasses were tinted, how one can see inside the car when the glasses are tinted.Gross violation by the vehicle owner

NEVER leave anyone in the car locked specially kids, aged, people with breathing problems. There are many cases of unreported deaths due to suffocation and shortness of breath.

Parents should be booked for criminal negligence. Sure, parents may have missed numbers in the backdrop of incriminate production, but that shall not constitute an excuse.

No doubt there can be outrage regarding the issue but one more important thing is that why was the kid left in the vehicle alone? For sure all windows were closed(if not cops would've seen for sure) why wasn't the AC on(since glass was closed). The child could have easily been a victim of heatstroke..mistake from the parents side is neglected here. If this happened in overseas the parents would've been jailed and the child would've been sent to child care authority

It is parents negligence to leave the child in car with closed windows. Luckily the child was safe. Have some mercy on your children.
