Bengaluru, Dec 5: In a measure meant to restrict the spread of coronavirus infection on the New Year eve, the state government is seriously contemplating the closure of liquor shops for two days on December 31 and January 1.
It is expected that the second wave of coronavirus may grip the state for the next 48 days. Going by the happenings in the countries, the second wave is expected between 45 and 90 days. The technical advisory committee has reported that the state too may come under the influence of the second wave.

At present, the participation of guests is restricted to 100 for wedding functions, 200 for political and religious functions, and 50 in case of funerals. As crowds are expected to come together at the liquor shops, the government plans to close them down.
The government had imposed lockdown as a measure to regulate the spread of coronavirus and as a result, had suffered a loss of over Rs 4,000 crore in the form of taxes. If the shops are closed during the New Year, fresh loss will be in the order of about a thousand crore rupees.
