Mangaluru, Dec 2: There are clear indications of the long-pending demand for laying road through tunnels dug on the Shiradi ghat stretch of the highway between the city and Bengaluru will begin soon. The central government plans to cover this project under its ambitious 'Bharat Mala' project. The land acquisition process is likely to begin by the end of December.
Most of the processes connected with the project have been completed. National Highways Authority of India is awaiting land acquisition notification. The plan is to rig 23.57 km-long tunnels between Addahole and Heggadde in Sakleshpur.
The existing project report is being adopted with minor modifications; Instead of the proposed 10 bridges, the modified project will have seven bridges and six tunnels. A detailed project report is under preparation.
Project report had been prepared with 10 bridges and six tunnels seven years ago. The road will move via Addahole, Gundia, Yedakumeri, Kadagaravalli and Marnahalli. Japan International Cooperative Agency had prepared that project report and the project had then come at an estimated cost of Rs 10,015 crore.
