Udupi, Dec 1: Sri Krishna Math has issued a clarification after Kannada Sahitya Parishad condemned the act of the Math of not including Kannada on their newly installed name boards.
In a press statement Neelavar Surendra Adiga, president of Kannada Sahitya Parishad had said, "Kannada Sahitya Parishad condemns the act of not including Kannada in the new name boards of the Math. Kannada should be the first priority in Karnataka. As a religious institution, it should not make any differences between languages. This is a clear violation of government law. We will submit a memorandum to the district administration. It is not right to replace Kannada with Tulu on the name boards.”
The new name boards were installed as part of the renovation work at Sri Krishna Math. The board contained names in Tulu and Sanskrit language scripts.
Sri Krishna Math issued a press statement and a clarification note which said, "The name boards were changed as part of the renovation process. Paryaya seer wanted the new boards to be carved in wood. As the Lakshadeepa festival arrived and the Kannada script board was not ready, we installed the board having written the name in Tulu and Sanskrit languages. The board in Kannada script is being prepared and will be installed soon. The scriptures in the Math are in Tulu script so the name was also written in Tulu script," the statement said.
