Mangaluru, Dec 1: An experiment undertaken under ambitious 'Srishti' scheme introduced by the Ayush department of Dakshina Kannada district to help childless couples to have children, has borne fruits perhaps for the first time in the state. A baby has been born out of homeopathy fertility treatment.
Ramesh-Shashikala couple from Tarikere, who did not have any offspring even after nine years of marriage, got a healthy 3.3 kg baby on November 28.
The said couple had tried several methods and undergone procedures in their quest to have their own baby but failed to taste success. After coming to know about the 'Srishti' scheme of the Ayush department, they came here in December to get themselves tested for becoming candidates for the said scheme. After the treatment was started, Shashikala became pregnant in February. Dr Kiran Shashikanth of the maternity department of Yenepoya Homeopathy Hospital, said that the above couple got a baby boy at a hospital at Tarikere.
During the tests, the problem was diagnosed and all allopathic and Ayurveda medicines and procedures were stopped. The couple was placed wholly on homeopathy treatment. As a result the lady became pregnant in a normal way, he explained.
'Srishti' scheme was initiated by the district Ayush hospital in association with Yenepoya Homeopathic Medical College Hospital. It had been set into motion by the union minister for Ayush, Sripad Yasso Naik, on August 29, 2019.
'Srishti Homeopathic Fertility Care Centre' has become a beacon of hope for couples without any issues. Thirty-two expert doctors of the hospital have been providing free checking and treatment for the infertility among the women and the men. Forty-two persons having no children have started getting treatment here and the scheme has come as a bright ray hope for the people belonging to poor and middle class families, says district Ayush officer Dr Mohammed Iqbal.
Treatment is now being given in the outpatient department of the government Wenlock Hospital here. As per the earlier plan, a well-equipped fertility care centre was to start functioning in the new Ayush building planned to be built by the side of the hospital but because of problems created by Covid, it has not materialised so far.
