If areca prices shoot up there will be no paddy cultivation at all, but farmers should remember commodity items are cyclical & the rates can fluctuate drastically!
Rates of pepper have halved from last year!

Those who stored pepper last year thinking rates would go up further are crying!

Once vanilla & rubber were in high demand!

If one has a big areca plantation no need of going abroad for earning big money!

BTW, farmers should understand that at present they're boring multiple borewells and using copious of water to get good crop but this borewell business will not last for long as already the water table has gone down drastically! A time will come when there will be acute shortage of water; this has happened in many places in India!

The Amount the farmers spend on cultivation of paddy is double and only for self consumption can be cultivated where as areca is cash crop also coconut so farmers have stopped paddy and labour intensive

Y u want to walk in the jungle in the nights? Any sane person won't do this. There's barren land in tulunadu. What are you doing there in USA? Come down take all the barren land on contract basis and start cultivating. Let's see your energy/efforts/ enthusiasm and dedication. U r talking as if u r funding for people to sit and eat and enjoy in the bars. Hw u know any dis? You too were visiting continuously bars and merriment areas. Thanks for feeding us tuluvas by your generosity. Next time, during your visit to tulunadu, check your eyes and get the proper specs for eyesight...

I agree overall, but there is lots of show-off here & splurging money which is mostly NRI sent!

Real picture will come out in 2021; already real estate rates & rentals are down 35-40%, distress selling is on by people who bought property as investment at peak value & want to encase but are trapped badly with no customers even at distress rates!
