Mangaluru, Nov 27: Congress leader and MLC B K Hariprasad on Friday November 27 said that the state government should form development authority for the Tulu and Kodava languages.
Speaking during a press meet held at district Congress Office, he said, "Both Tulu and Kodava languages are the languages of this land which have accepted Kannada as the official language. Many eminent people from these regions have contributed to the development of the state. Thus, the state government should form development authorities for these two languages."
He also alleged that the government is neglecting these two regions.
Terming the BJP government's decisions on the formation of the Maratha Development Authority and including Veerashaiva-Lingayat in the Other Backward Classes (OBC) list as a joke and political suicide, Hariprasad said, "The Constitution has provided reservation for socially weaker sections in the country for their development".
“In 2019, the government had taken the decision to provide 10 percent reservation for the economically weaker sections. In spite 73 years of providing reservations to SC/ST and OBC class, they were not able to enjoy the complete reservation because of some vested interests in the country. Reservation for these classes was given for their upliftment,” he said.
He also urged chief minister B S Yediyurappa and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide reservations on the basis of population and not the basis of caste. He also said that BJP is trying to implement its agenda to throw away reservations given to the weaker sections in the country.
