Udupi, Nov 27: Ranganna (28), a native of Vijayapura, passed away at the district hospital at Ajjarkad here on November 23. He had been admitted there due to ill health. His wife was unable to perform the funeral. Social worker Vishu Shettyi Ambalpady, came forward to help her and arranged for the man's mortal remains at the Hindu graveyard at Beedinagude here on Thursday November 26. Vishu Shetty's humanitarian initiative has received all round appreciation.
Ranganna had migrated to the town from Vijayapura long back, and had settled down here. He worked as a coolie. The fact that he had breathed his last was conveyed to his wife by the police. The lady confessed that she did not have even the money to meet the bus fare to Udupi to come here to dispose the mortal remains of her husband. At last, with lot of efforts, she borrowed money from someone and came here along with a relative.
Vishu Shetty came to know about the abject poverty of the family and helplessness of the lady. He immediately responded positively, and arranged for the funeral by meeting all expenses connected thereto.
Investigation assistant of the town police station Vishwanath Shetty Amasebail, Shilpa of women's police station and social leader Ramdas Palan Udyavar, supported Shetty's humanitarian gesture by being present at the funeral.
