Kundapur, Nov 24: Providing relief to the drinking water woes of the people of the Byndoor, MP B Y Raghavendra made announcements concerning the drinking water project which will help solve the distress in the matter. “Byndoor has received over Rs 505 crore to provide safe and adequate drinking water supply to every house under the central government’s Jal Jeevan Mission. The drinking water problem in Byndoor will be solved permanently within the next two years,” said MP B Y Raghavendra. He was speaking at a meeting with officials held in the Jayashree auditorium, Hemmady.
“NABARD will release Rs 151 crore, under Jal Jeevan Mission Rs 135 crore will be received and the state government will spend Rs 183 crore towards the project. There are around 59,386 houses in Byndoor. The project will be prepared keeping in mind for the next 30 years. Over 220 overhead tanks will be required for the project. They will have capacity of over two lac litres. The tanks will be maintained for five years. The process of handing them over to the local administration is in progress,” he said.
MLA Sukumar Shetty stated that the foundation will be laid for a dam which would segregate saltwater from freshwater at the cost of Rs 35 crore. “The dam will benefit people in Uppunda, Bijoor, Taggarse, Mayyadi, Yedthare and Paduvari villages. Approval to start an ITI in Byndoor at a cost of Rs 30 crore has also been received. The Centre will soon authorise a ropeway project for Kollur. The project will be the longest ropeway enabling over 25,000 people to travel to Byndoor every day. Rs 5 crore have been also approved for the Someshwar beach development. Approval of Rs 150 crore from the Centre for the Kundapur–Gangolli bridge project is also awaited. Rs 1,350 crore have been altogether received with the cooperation of chief minister and MP,” he said.
Special officer Rajappa, assistant commissioner K Raju, Byndoor taluk panchayat president Mahendra Poojary, Kundapur taluk panchayat president Indira Shetty, district panchayat member Babu Hegde, Shankar Poojary, Rohith Kumar Shetty, Shobha G Puthran, Suresh Batwadi, BJP block president Deepak Kumar Shetty and other officials were present.
