Byndoor, Nov 21: Many young people from Byndoor were taken for a ride with promise of employment in the Kaiga plant of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India in Uttara Kannada district. It is said that the youngsters were cheated to the extent of several lacs of rupees.
It is learnt that 50 to 60 young people from Byndoor and surrounding areas were promised employment in the Kaiga power plant. Money was collected from each one of them. Ritesh Patwal and his friends had contacted the people seeking jobs and promised them employment. They also collected money from them. They were issued fake documents and sent to Kaiga by a tempo from Byndoor.

The youngsters came to know that they were cheated when the security staff at Kaiga stopped them and verified their documents. The entire transactions were put through a person from Karwar. It is said that one of the employment agents had collected Rs 18 lac and remitted to the man at Karwar and he got commission of Rs 4.5 lac. The total amount involved may be around Rs 30 lac as per an estimate. A case about this cheating has been registered in Byndoor police station.
Accused Ritesh Patwal has since been arrested from Sringeri. There is suspicion of several more having worked behind this scandal. People hope that the police investigation will bring out the truth.
