Mangaluru City Corporation to install CCTVs to make streets litter-free

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (DV)

Mangaluru, Nov 20: Think twice before littering at public places in the city. It may cost you high as the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has decided to install CCTV cameras in several such places in the city to prevent people from littering in the public.

Though MCC had issued strict guidelines on segregation of waste, to put an end to dumping of building debris and solid and wet waste on the stretch of roads, MCC has taken this initiative.

Sources in MCC also stated that the MCC commissioner has directed the Health and Sanitation department to install CCTV cameras in such places. And, it is also learnt that officers of the department have identified 169 places in 60 wards where waste is being dumped on the road.

It is also said that at the initial stage, CCTV will be installed at prominent places nnd hefty fines will be slapped against the violators.

Speaking to daijiworld.com, MCC commissioner Akshy Sridhar said, "We have identified such black spots in the city. Initially, we will see how it works by installing CCTV cameras in a few places. If it works really well in pilot locations, we will extend it to other locations."

Please levy heavy fines on those who spit wherever they want and also spitting from the vehicles.....And, please charge a good amount of fine on those who use public roads as their toilet...Mr.Kamath said State Bank. i request the authorities to install TV's on nanthoor pumpwel road. After taking the turn from nanthoor to pumpwel, and moved little further, one can see truck/car/bike riders and sometimes even a passer-by dirty the roadsides..yuckk people... disgusting...please install around 50 TV's on this road too...🙏 .

    Cynthia,
In the absence of loos & toilets in multiple places where, crowd concentration is most, will the people go when their bladders are about to burst; either they have to wear diapers or pee in plastic covers & dispose it besides the roads if not allowed to relieve besides the roads!
I feel pity for sr citizens, women, and those having bladder problems; if they were to have a sudden urge, where will they go??

Clean urinals & spitoons should be provided at regular intervals to assuage this issues!

Remember, one will never use the roadsides if they are provided basic clean facilities!

Rudy sir, I agree with your points as far as toilets are concerned. But, regarding spitting, some are there they spit anywhere, everywhere and where ever they want... and from the running vehicles and purposely on the passers by.... is there any use of spittoons for such people?

Installing CCTV alone will not prevent nor control Crime or Dumping.
The authorities responsible for any civic duty have no staff to take care
of citizens's woes,, except to take care of Politicians - for example check
out the escort given even to a small time MLA or a visiting Politician, and
    one will understand.

Today everything comes packaged - check out a small convenience shop
on the road, and survey what people purchase and why the packaging is
instantly thrown on the streets. The answer or control to contain this
packaging menace, is called TO PROVIDE? Provide Garbage bins every
25metres on main street, at Bus Terminals, at Taxi Stands, Rickshaw Stands,

The Indian authorities are tied to bureaucracy where one seeks responsibility
from one to another, and finally nobody does any good - for example maintaining
main roads, bi-lanes, footpaths, during the monsoon, and immediately after the
monsoon. But this never happens be it in Mangalore of Udupi.

Mangalore City Corporation is doing a good job by installing CCTVs to make streets litter free. This is not something new as every country in the world has CCTVs at every nook and corner of the street. This CCTV's will not only solve the problem of litter thrown on in any part but also theft, mugging, and you name it. But it should be functional 24/7.

If you will drive towards Bajpe, Maravor Bridge is the beginning of sinners. As you climb upwards, all along the road we can witness our culture. I feel so ashamed to pass that way.

When will we learn ?? When we ourselves are so irresponsible, why blame the sanitation system in the city !
