Mangalore, May 12: Most parts of the coastline from Kasargod to Udupi district got drenched in rain on Tuesday May 11. Many regions in these districts received rains both in the morning and evening, while the city experienced light drizzle in the morning and good rain in the evening.
Two women were injured due to lightning on Tuesday evening. They are, Susheela (35), a resident of Untradka in Kodimbala village of Puttur taluk, and Asha (31), a resident of Aittur near Sullia. Both were admitted to hospitals.
Sullia received rain coupled with lightning for two hours on Tuesday evening. Sullia taluk in general, received normal rain in the morning and again in the evening. Puttur, Uppinangady, Kadaba etc., got rain along with thunder and lightning for about an hour. Bantwal experienced storm and rain on Tuesday. As electric poles and trees got uprooted in Kalladka in Bantwal taluk, Hirgana village in Karkala taluk, and several villages of Sullia taluk, power supply and telephone connections got severed. The house of district BJP president, Padmanabh Kottary, was partially damaged due to an uprooted tree.
The entire coast experienced cloudy and hot weather since Tuesday morning, and rains brought some respite from heat. Kasargod district also got good rains. Over 500 areca nut trees fell to the ground due to heavy wind in Keyyur, Perlampady and Mundoor villages of Puttur taluk.
The meteorological department has predicted cloudy weather with intermittent rains to continue for two more days.
