Puttur, Nov 15: Well-known entrepreneur, areca nut dealer and social worker P B Hassan Haji (72) died at a hospital in Mangaluru on Sunday, November 15 due to a brief illness.

Hassan Haji used to run an areca nut company called 'Unity', which is why he was fondly called 'Unity Hassan Haji'. He was a resident of Koornadka in the town.

Hassan Haji was the president of the Puttur Seerat Committee. He was the former president of Ansaruddin Jamaat Committee, which falls under the Puttur central Juma Masjid. Hassan Haji also served as the former member of Dakshina Kannada district Wakf Advisory Committee. He was a philanthropist who was recognized in many religious organizations.

Hassan Haji used to also finance the marriage of economically underprivileged girls, provide education to financially poor but brilliant students and respond to people suffering from ill-health.

Hassan Haji is survived by wife, a son, four daughters and scores of admirers.
