Mangaluru: Sand, mud on concrete roads pose serious problems for two-wheeler riders

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Nov 10: At many places in the city, sand and mud has got accumulated on the surface of concrete roads. In addition to creating hurdles in the vehicular movement, this loose surface also can be detrimental to the lives of two-wheeler riders.

As proper drainage system has not been provided to the roads, rainwater directly flows on the road. The mud and other dirt which flows with water gets accumulated on the roads. In addition to two-wheelers, even wheels of cars, auto rickshaws and other light vehicles skid on this soil and meet with accidents.

A few examples of this phenomenon are near Bondel church, near Kadri ground, Kulur-Kavoor road, Bunts Hostel, Kuntikan on national highway 66, KPT, Padil and other important roads. In the past, the sand accumulated on the roads had been removed by the corporation. But sand again got accumulated as heavy rain brought more mud.

Two-wheeler riders face most risk from this slippery sand. If they apply brakes, the wheels will skid. They have to avoid applying brakes. At night, accidents will be more as riders often fail to detect sand on the road.

Potholes on concrete roads also have the potential of taking away or pose serious threats to the lives of riders. At several places, roads have been damages at the spots where the roads were cut for repairs. Public want the corporation to undertake repair works to address the issue.
