Karwar: ‘Land for sale’ - Unique way to protest against national highway authority's apathy

Daijiworld Media Network - Karwar (SP)

Karwar, Nov 10: A board displayed near Gundabal on Honnavar-Bengaluru national highway 206 announces that the road is on sale. This board has become quite popular in the social media.

The board pasted on the road says, 'Land on sale - manager and MLA Sirsi and Siddapur assembly constituency'.

The board does not mean some land near the road is on sale. It has been displayed by a local.

Many years back, the mud embankment near Gundabal had collapsed and vehicular traffic had faced problems. The National Highways Authority of India has just built a compound at the space where the highway collapsed. It has not undertaken any permanent work, neither has done anything to repair the damaged portion of the road. That is why a local, Rajesh Shet, has undertaken a unique method of protest by announcing that this space is for sale. He has posted the images in the social media. He also has uploaded the photos and other details on Facebook.

Shet has noted that national highway 206 is a very important part of the connecting road between the coast and Siddapur if the Sirsi and Kumta Devimane ghat are closed. Shet says that even after 18 months, the department and people's representatives have turned a blind eye to the problem.

When Modi led BJP can sell profitable Airports and PSU's to his Gujrati election sponsors then selling a small piece of land is no big deal.
