Convene full session of Goa assembly: Oppn to Goa Guv

Panaji, Nov 9 (IANS): Goa Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat on Monday demanded the convening of a full fledged session of the state legislative assembly, stating that urgent deliberations need to be conducted on issues related to the Covid-19 pandemic, economic slowdown, environmental degradation, and collapse of law and order, among others.

In a letter to Goa Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Kamat also said that the full fledged session is necessary because the monsoon session of the state assembly, which was intended to be held for over 10 days, had to be curtailed on account of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"You will appreciate that it is the right of every elected representative, especially from the Opposition, to raise issues concerning the common man. After the breakdown of Covid pandemic, our state is passing through various crises including economic slowdown, unemployment, environmental issues, collapse of law and order, failure of the government in handling Covid pandemic and providing proper healthcare services and various other issues," Kamat said is his letter to Koshyari.

"The entire state has gone into agitation mode with people raising their voices against destruction of environment, forest, wildlife and identity of Goa due to the three projects, namely railway double tracking, laying of power transmission line and expansion of national highway passing through the Bhagvan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary and Mollem National Park," Kamat said.

The former Chief Minister also said that the Congress wants to discuss the issue of protests against a proposed sea marina project and a proposed Indian Institute of Technology complex in the state.

"It is important that people's issues are discussed in the Goa legislative assembly wherein all the 40 elected representatives can put forth their views and take a stand on various issues," Kamat said.
