Udupi, Nov 7: The regional transport authority has revised express, shuttle and city bus fares. The revision has come into retrospective effect from October 13.
Minimum bus fare for express and shuttle buses has been increased to nine rupees from eight. For city buses, the minimum fare of seven rupees has been hiked to nine rupees. The express bus fare from Udupi to Mangaluru has gone up from Rs 65 to 80. During the Covid period, as per the permission of the government, minimum fare of ten rupees was being charged as the government had limited the number of passengers who can travel in buses.
As per the new list, fare will be nine rupees for express and shuttle buses till 6.5 km, Rs 16 till 13 km, Rs 22 till 19.5 km, and Rs 29 for 26 km. For 32.5 km, the fare is Rs 35, Rs 42 till 39 km, Rs 48 up to 45.5 km, Rs 55 till 52 km, Rs 61 till 58 km, Rs 68 till 65 km, Rs 74 up to 71.5 km, Rs 85 up to 84.5 km, Rs 100 up to 97.5 km, Rs 107 up to 104 km, Rs 113 till 110.5 km, Rs 120 till 120 km and Rs 159 till 156 km.
City buses
The fare will be Rs 7 up to 2 km, Rs 12 up to 4 km, Rs 15 up to 6 km, Rs 17 up to 8 km, Rs 22 up to 12 km, Rs 24 up to 14 km and so on till Rs 38 for 26 km.
Regional transport officer J P Gangadhar, said that instructions have been given to ensure that tickets are issued in the entire district only though electronic ticket machines. This is applicable to KSRTC and private buses. If this is not followed, the buses face the prospects of cancellation of permits and legal steps, he added.
President of City Bus Owners’ Union, Kuilady Suresh Nayak, said that even though there is provision to increase fare by three rupees over the current fare as per government notification that much increase has not been permitted in the revised list. As this is violation of rule, he said, court will be approached for justice.
