The political party the MLA belonged to had called a meeting after the cases of cheating came to light and decided to refund the deposits. The party’s state leadership had directed the MLA to sell the assets of the jewellery and refund the deposits. The party had entrusted the responsibility of collecting details to party district treasurer Mahin Haji.
But Mahin Haji had submitted a report to the state committee that Rs 120 crores are to be returned to nearly 700 depositors while the value of the assets was only Rs ten crores. The party had expressed dissatisfaction over the functioning of Qamaruddin as the deposits could not be refunded.
