Recoveries continue to outnumber new coronavirus cases in Karnataka


Bengaluru, Nov 5 (IANS): Maintaining its momentum, 8,045 recoveries outnumbered 3,377 new Covid cases on a single day in Karnataka.

"With 8,045 patients discharged on Tuesday, recoveries shot up to 7,88,780 till date, while 3,377 fresh cases were registered, taking the southern state's Covid tally to 8,35,773, including 35,693 active cases," said the state health bulletin on Wednesday.

Death of 34 patients due to the infection in the last 24 hours rose the state's toll to 11,281 since the pandemic broke on March 8.

New cases, however, dropped below 2,000 in Bengaluru to 1,953, taking its tally to 3,43,507, including 18,806 active cases, while 3,20,783 recovered, with 5,827 discharged in the last 24 hours.

With 16 succumbing to the infection in a day, the city's death toll rose to 3,917.

Of the 928 patients in the intensive care units (ICUs), 464 are in Bengaluru, 47 in Ballari, 40 in Tumakru, 36 in Hassan, 35 in Kolar and 29 in Kalaburagi.

Out of 1,02,503 tests conducted on Tuesday, 27,458 were through rapid antigen detection and 75,045 through RT-PCR method.

"Positivity rate for the day was 3.29 per cent and case fatality rate 1 per cent," said the bulletin.
