Mangaluru: Mud heaped at Karavali Utsav ground disturbs users

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Nov 4: The heap of waste soil that is connected with the smart city works going on in the city, which has been deposited at the Karavali Utsav ground has been obstructing people using the ground.

There is no space within the city corporation limits to dispose of waste generated during different works. The corporation has fined people who had poured the waste by the river bank, roadside etc. Now, the Smart City has been facing the same problem. The soil dug out for undertaking concreting and underground drainage works at the car street has been brought and poured on the ground at the Karavali Utsav ground.

The ground has been divided into two by way of a fence. The waste has been deposited at the space where the exhibition is held normally. This is creating problems for the people who use the Maidan for jogging, running, light exercises etc and also by those learning to ride light vehicles. They do not have space now. Moreover, parking of waste disposal vehicles here has compounded the problem.

The officials of the smart city said that this is a temporary arrangement and with permission of the sports department, soil has been dumped here as there is no space near the area where the work is going on. As the work requires soil again, this soil will be used for the same work again, the smart city officials said. The sports department said that even the soil connected with their department has been heaped here, and the same will be levelled in the coming days. The concerned are learnt to have promised to remove soil within a week.

Now give a notice to Corporation and fine for heaping the mud on Utsav grounds.Corporation is absolutely not in a position to plan and do the works which should be done. Why they have not done this Previously.?It should be a part of corporation where the wastage should be disposed and how .Place should be planned in when corporation was planned. No parking lots from corporations side.

Not only at Karavali Utsav ground even on footpaths, one clear example is on the road between Kankannady and Highlands Falnir. There is building debris dumbed on the footpath, which makes it difficult for pedestrians to walk and motorists to park their vehicles on the unofficial footpath. Our smart city is in total mess.
