Mangaluru: 17-year-old dies after bike rams into divider, light pole

Mangaluru, Oct 22: In a gruesome accident, a speeding bike hit a pedestrian, before ramming into a road divider and light pole here on Thursday. A 17-year-old youth who was riding pillion on the bike died on the spot while the bike rider and the pedestrian sustained critical injuries.

The incident happened near Kotekar Sankoli, NH 66 on Thursday evening. The deceased has been identified as Ashwith who was a PU student. He was the son of Manjeshwar Hosangadi Angadipadavu based Ananta Gas Agency proprietor Gopala and Shobha couple. Another son Ashwin (21), who has been critically injured in the incident has been admitted to hospital. Meanwhile, the pedestrian who also hit is yet to be identified.

The bike which was speeding from Manjeshwar towards Mangaluru initially hit the pedestrian who was crossing the national highway. The bike rider, who lost control after the hit, rammed the bike into the divider and the electric transformer. Naguri traffic police personnel then visited the spot and conducted inspection.

The injured have been admitted to Thokkottu private hospital.

    Before giving the vehicle to children parents should make sure that they are mentally fit to manage the vehicle and surroundings.
    Before issuing the driving license the authorities should teach the impact of speed and consequences of the accidents as the driver is totally understood how to care for himself/herself and others.

    Sad thing is that everyone blaming the rider and driver and his family. Here driver is of 21 years old and rider is 17 years old.

    Nobody is talking about a pedestrian who was crossing the road with his negligence.

    Are you all expecting the driver to go on 20kmph in a national highway. Are you expecting the driver to stop his vehicle and allow the pedestrian to cross the road in the middle of the national highway.
    Yes the speed kills. But just simply don't come into judgement that always the fault is from driver side.

    Speed governor (limiter) should be made compulsory for all 2 wheelers,city buses and school vehicles.When road accidents kill 10 times more people than Corona more awareness and regulations are required.

    @monti doc - speed governor for 2 wheeler ???????? such a thing is never existed and cannot be made, speed governor is only for Diesel heavy commercial vehicles. 2 wheeler engine technology is completely different although working principle is same for internal combustion engine. suggest govt to install RADAR and speed camera as they have it on Bangalore Mumbai Delhi

    Parents loaded with easy, hard,cash, should provide fancy bikes, for their brood !!!!! Recommend Suzuki Hayabusa and Kawasaki Ninja H2R, super speed hounds, to kill pedestrians !!!!

    Nobody is even talking about a pedestrian crossing the highway , and even one fool talking about buying bikes for 25 year olds , for crying out loud the rider was 21 he definitely has a license and secondly you can't ride slow on a higway , its clearly the pedestrians fault if he wasnt using a zebra crossing

    Any Person will be shocked if You see 14 years old-15 years old riding Bikes with 2 children in back seat wich scares the Hell of Us driving on zig zag roads of Adyar Padav-Volachil. Even there is a young girl under 16 rides the Rickshahaw. Parent are careless. There are few Bikers drag racing together during evening hours between Bunts Hostel towards Nanthoor. They think that they are on Race Track. No one Cares to inform authorities until someone dies. Then comes Words RIP even after they Rested in Peace.

    The driver of the bike was just 21.

    I have said this before, and I will say it again...

    The parents must not give a vehicle to their children before they turn 25 - UNLESS they are fully trained in road-safety.

    The under-25s do not seem to understand that speed kills. So they drive as fast as the vehicle allows them to do.

    Once critically injured, the person is like a vegetable. Regretting later will not help.
