They should have investigated the said officers without informing public about missing gold in their houses and their assets. Now they know and will be also knowing how to hide and be a innocents.Previously in 70s and 80s it was a hell for travellers in Mumbai. When we travel back to Frankfurt in checking women used to check our bags and remove the rest money from bags and hide in their blouses. They made me to pay taxes to my kariamani and two bangles which were so light.Had no other jewellary.since then I never bring any personal jewellary when I visit home.Since this new system came ,we have some relief.Even in the year of Emergency time I had to pay 5,000Rs in 1975,to a officer outside the airport for a small camera .All corrupt customs officer.

My relative was caught in the Mumbai Customs for concealing a 100 gold biscuit and he could not go back to his job in the Gulf until, his case was settled. With this problem in my mind, when I brought (Allowed to bring 1 kg gold by declaring as per law) 3 biscuits of 100 gm each, I placed them on the table and told the Custom Officer to charge the duty. He told me to keep it in my pocket and told me to give 200 Saudi Riyals (about Rs 1200 then) to the peon sitting near toilet, I had no option.

When my friend, a bit religious person was told to give 1000 rupees, he said it was against his conscience. He was levied very high duty on his goods. This way, they are looting the govt.

You find, most of the Customs officers in Mumbai, live in Lohandwala, Raheja or Hiranandani housing complexes, where an apartment is priced over 3 crores. This is the reality, who will raid ? A police officer residing in my building in Mumbai was caught taking 7 lakh bribe and was arrested. After a week, he went to duty wearing uniform. He said, he paid 10 lakhs to superiors.

Ppl like you r also responsible for thus curruption. When a Co passenger said he is ready to pay duty why you opt for an easy way out? You r also equally responsible for the mess which whole country faces. If every citizen acts like you no MODI or SHASTRI can change the fortune of INDIA.
Now p blame Govt for non performence. How you expect the Govt to manage the country if all citizen behaves lije you.
Ppl lije you don't have moral right to criticise the Govt

I had placed my 3 gold biscuits on the table and told him to charge duty. In my 20 yeas service in Aramco, I had travelled at least 25 times to and fro from Saudi Arabia and I know how customs work.
If we do not pay the bribe, we are charged the double custom duty on our goods arbitrarily by them.
Whatever you say, I agree, anyway I have learnt to be practical and I am not a saint.

All part of the Acche Din. Can not blame anyone except for ourselves. People voted to Modi to bring a change in corrupt culture in every govt., offices. Now, corruption is legalized, starting from Rafael Deal. These days corrupt go for big frauds, big money. Once big money in the pockets, with some political connection, everything can be bought, even can get the person higher dignity and reputation. There are some TV anchors who can do that very easily. But, India wants to know why?

May be the custom officials who carried out this daketi, i am sure that they are involved in smuggling of gold by providing assistance to the smugglers. arrest these govt smugglers and enquire about the illegal wealth they have accumulated. You will get many more issues like this and more and more customs officials will be found taking away gold from the treasury + assisting smugglers.
