Moodbidri, Oct 14: A couple, both teachers in aided schools, who had undertaken visits to rural places to contact the students under the state government's ambitious 'Vidyagama' scheme, have now been infected with the deadly coronavirus infection. The health condition of one among them is worsening with each passing day. The couple's daughter, who has been struggling to put together money for their treatment, has now been pleading with the government for help in meeting treatment expenses through social media.
Headmaster of DJ aided school here, Shashikanth Y and Jawaharlal Nehru aided high school teacher at Makki, Padmakshi N, had become sick after taking part in 'Vidyagama'. Both of them had tested positive for the infection and Shashikanth is recovering. But Padmakshi, who has been undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Mangaluru from September 29 onwards, has not been showing the desired improvement. Her treatment costs around Rs 30,000 per day and the family, which has already spent about six to seven lac rupees, is facing a crisis.

Aishwarya Jain, daughter of the couple, who is a final year degree student of an engineering college at Moodbidri, said that her parents were in good health. "Because of 'Vidyagama', the health condition of my mother has become critical. If anything happens to her, the government is entirely responsible," she said.
Aishwarya has approached chief minister B S Yediyurappa, education minister Suresh Kumar, as well as health and medical education minister Dr Sudhakar, through social media seeking for financial assistance. In addition to MLAs and MP, various departments have also been approached seeking help. She says that her family is in urgent need of money towards medical expenses. "I believe that the government will not leave its employees high and dry in such situations. My mother's health condition is precarious. I am under immense pressure, and hence am unable to personally meet the education minister and others. I request everyone to somehow save my mother," she pleaded.
As per latest developments, it is gathered that MLA Umanath Kotian has spoken to Aishwarya and assured her help from the government.
