School closure may cost over $400 billion to India: World Bank

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi (SP)

New Delhi, Oct 13: Because of the closure of schools for the last few months on account of the coronavirus-affected situation, the country as a whole is likely to lose $400 billion (Rs 29.34 lac crore) in the form of future incomes, a report of the World Bank stated.

As per the current calculations, south Asian countries will suffer a loss of $622 billion (Rs 45.63 lac crore). If the crisis deepens, the loss may escalate to $880 billion (Rs 64.57 lac crore) as per current calculations. Most of the losses will happen in India, and most of the countries are losing a major portion of their GDP, the report mentioned.

Because of coronavirus-induced adversities, about 39 crore children from south Asian schools have remained away from schools. About 55 lac children are likely to desert their schools. It will have a direct impact on the productivity of one generation of the people, the World Bank stated. The report also warns that because children stayed away from schools for over five months, their studies on different subjects will get adversely affected.

Somebody's loss and Parents gain. You can imagine, how our education system works in India. In all developed countries, education is free upto 10th grade. After spending Lakhs of money students have no jobs in India. Only some influencial and intelligent people get Jobs.

    Anand,

Education till 10th is free in India too, but in government schools. Well, not only till 10th, even PU & Degree. Believe me, our neighbour paid Rs. 6,000/- under reservation category who admitted his child to PU at govt college while we paid Rs. 30,000/- in private college. No, it's our fault, not the neighbour's nor the government's.

There are some aided schools where fees is very less but they are Kannada Medium. Are we ready to send out children to government schools or Kannada medium schools ? When we aren't, we should not complain about the 'expensive' side of education.

Why World Bank will give statement only about India when all the countries all over the world are hit by pandemic and educationional institutions are closed everywhere? First ministers tried to persuade, then appeared educational experts, child right commission, health department, child marriages, child labour and child trafficking. When no positive response, using the name of World Bank. Let World Bank say about all the countries all over the world.. Why bothered only about India?

Please don't teach any calculations for present government. They and their followers do not understand any mathmatics or finance related issues. They don't even have logical followers to understand the same. So please don't share any kind of data. They will finally say world bank is anti nationalist.

    Is WB dumb/mute/deaf ?

Current Indian youth, already educated graduates, are jobless and our PM is asking us to fry Pakoda and sell for a living. What were you doing while this became a news, WB ?

You are worried about future generation, our current generation is begging. Check today's (Indian) inflation rate and see how far the current government has taken us. Check what was Indian position before six years. Obviously, sans Convid-19 devastation but that started in March 2020 but our beggarly position came by Dec. 2019(-GDP).
